Fitness Walking Tips for Everyone
- admin in category: Fitness Walking, Walking Tips
Did you know that the average person walks 65,000 miles in their lifetime?
While almost all of us use walking as a primary mode of transportation, a growing number are using walking as their preferred means of exercise.
Fitness walking, often also referred to as “power walking,” may be the single best form of all-round exercise for us humans.
There are relatively few barriers to walking for fitness.
- most of us can engage in a walking program without being “athletes”
- we can walk in a wide variety of weather conditions and terrains
- the only equipment we need is a supportive pair of walking shoes.
Compared to other forms of exercise, walking is also less likely to cause injury; this is especially important as we age, or if we are also facing physical or medical problems of other kinds.
No gym membership is needed. Although some do prefer walking on a treadmill or elliptical machine, all you really need to do is lace up your walking shoes, go outside, and GO!
Another current trend for seniors and parents taking care of small children is walking in malls. The enclosed space makes for protection from the elements, and the even terrain means missteps are unlikely to occur.
Whatever the form — or wherever you decide to do it — fitness walking is a lifetime habit that reaps huge benefits, both in muscle tone, prevention of heart disease, and the stimulation of good general health.
Because walking is such a simple form of exercise, if you are in good general health, and choose a solid progressive program suited to your ability and fitness level, the only remaining factor is wearing a comfortable but supportive pair of shoes well-suited for walking.
Check with your doctor, and see if a walking fitness program might be right for you.
